Monday January 4th, 2021: Welcome to the first day of online learning for the next two weeks! Since we finished our unit on Early Colonies and the Role of Religion we will now begin a new unit on Rising Tensions in the Colonies. Our goal will be to examine the reasons that the colonists eventually declared independence from England and whether this was a defendable action. This unit will correspond with pages 132-155. I am attaching these pages as a PDF file below in case you do not have your book. This is required reading and will be assigned throughout the weeks.
Prior to the break, you read briefly about the tensions between the French and the British concerning the Ohio River Valley. For today's class, I would like for you to familiarize yourself with that material. Please take a look at the slides for "unit part 1" and look over once more pages 132-134.
Please answer the following in the corresponding assignment in Google Classroom by the end of class.
#1: Explain the reasons some Natives allied with the British over the French and vice versa.
#2: Why did some Natives think that allying themselves with either side would still bring about their own destruction? (Think about territory expansion that each European group may want, increase in European population with time, etc.) Do you agree with that assessment or would you pick a side to fight on during the French and Indian War? Explain your reasoning.
(Depending on what is easier for you, I have attached the PowerPoint as a PowerPoint and PDF file. The Presentation needed to be split into multiple parts due to the limitations of this site in allowing uploads of a certain size)
